Tomorrow Amy and I leave for our summer vacation (or mainly vacation). First stop: Victoria Falls.
Growing up near Niagara Falls, Victoria Falls has long been on my to-go list. I can picture myself at age five with my mouth open watching the enormous volumes of water crest down a rock face into the river below. And hoping that our boat wouldn’t get sucked into the falls.
Niagara has several must-do’s, but my family always opted for the Maid of the Mist boat ride. In the 1960s, this involved waiting on line, being handed an already wet slicker, stinky rubber boots, and boarding a crowded boat where you had to shove your way to the rail. I loved every minute.
Here’s a photo from July 2002 after my folks, my kids, Amy and I got close enough to the falls to get a good drenching. (No photos from the 1960s.)
Book Update. My publisher’s page says the book is “coming soon,” but a few days ago, look what arrived!
While I’m traveling, you can buy the book online:
Bookshop.org (Bookshop.org’s website says, “We support local, independent bookstores. Choose your favorite bookstore to receive the full profit from your Bookshop.org purchases.” They mail the book directly to your house.)
Amazon.com (yes, Amazon prints books for small presses and they must have given my publisher the best deal, given the boxes that I received)
I’ll send more info once I’m back: E-books, audio-books and the like.
Let me know if you have suggestions for outreach events! Have car, or take plane, love to travel…
I love this story and also have wonderful memories of time at Niagara Falls. Love the photo of you all there with your faces showing varying degrees of enjoyment of the day😺❤️
I am thrilled to be getting two copies of your book soon ordered from next chapter an independent book store on st Paul. ❤️❤️
Congratulations, Jen!! I’m putting in my order through Bookshop.org. Enjoy your trip and safe travels.
